The womb is a noisy place – from the sound of your heartbeat and the gurgle in your stomach, to the sound of air moving in and out of your lungs, and the muffled sound of your familiar voice. White noise is said to emulate the comfort of life before being earthside. It can be used to settle an unsettled bub, as part of a bedtime routine to cue sleep is coming, or to drown out the noise of a busy family home.

I’ve personally found white noise to work really well in settling my daughter Mimi, and also creating a cue for sleep.

I used the Aroma-Snooze with Mimi from birth to 2 years old and I still occasionally use it when we have guests over and I want to drown out the noise.

But this year the Euky Bear Sweet Dreams Sleep Aid was voted top 3 in our 2023 Best of White Noise Machines on the market and I was eager to see what all the fuss was about, so I tested it with my 7 week old, Will.

What is the Euky Bear Sweet Dreams Sleep Aid?

The Euky Bear is an all-in-one sleep aid that combines the benefits of sound, light and aromatherapy. It features a cool mist humidifier that can be used with essential oils from 3 months on, different soothing sounds that play all night long, plus a red light (or choose from the 8 colours available).

The theory is that red light wavelengths stimulate melatonin production, a naturally occurring hormone that your brain releases as night falls to promote sleep. Generally speaking, red light doesn’t interfere with your circadian rhythms (like blue light does) and is said to provide a calming, soothing environment.  As long as the light is emitting red light wavelengths and is not just a light tinted red, it could be having a positive impact on your and your babies sleep.

This machine comes with pink noise. I’ve only just learnt about pink noise which is white noise but with reduced higher frequencies. The frequencies resemble the frequencies in sounds found in nature and it’s considered to be more soothing for babies than standard white noise.

Key takeaways after testing this product

The Euky Bear is super easy to set up and use. Will is currently next to my bed in our BabyBee Pod bedside sleeper. I use the red light all night so I can check on him and see during feeds and nappy changes. The unit is on the ground next to my bedside table so that it’s not too bright in the middle of the night next to my face. I haven’t used any of the other colours yet, but intend to continue experimenting with it.

Will’s still feeding on demand so I haven’t started implementing a bedtime routine yet. I plan to do what I did with Mimi, my firstborn, and use essential oils and lullabies while feeding before bedtime to create sleep cues and a beautiful calm environment. I found this really worked for us.

The lullabies are really sweet. They’re not tinnie like a lot of cheaper sound machines you can find on the market, so they are soothing for mum too!

I like how the Euky Bear humidifier function has a timer so you can select how long it runs for from 1 to 8 hours. You don’t necessarily want it running the entire night and won’t want to risk waking them to turn it off!

I don’t use the humidifier every night, only when I remember to fill it up, which I must admit isn’t often as a working mum with a newborn! I can’t say I’ve noticed any benefit from using the humidifier just yet, but when Will is a little older I’ll use it in conjunction with the essential oils. This is definitely no substitute for a full-sized steam vaporiser. They’re very different products!

I haven’t started using the oils yet as Will is under 3 months. But it comes with 5 different blends designed to help with sleep, snuffles, tummy ease, calming and my favourite, ‘Bee Happy’.

There are only a few things I’d like to change about this product.

  1. I’d love for the sounds to have a timer so I could play lullabies that turn off after 15 or 20 minutes.

  2. The top half isn’t connected to the bottom, so I’ve spilled the water a few times when I’ve picked it up to move it.

Both very minor things and don’t detract from it being a great sleep aid.

If you’re looking for an all in one night light, humidifier and sound machine that plays all night, then the Euky Bear Sweet Dreams Sleep Aid is a great option that I definitely recommend.
