Whether you’re a newborn or 101, you can’t ignore the benefits of a good night’s sleep. You wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day ahead. If you’re in the early days of your parenting journey, a good night of sleep might seem more like a dream than a reality but it gets better (trust us, we’ve experienced it and come out the other side!).

One product that aims to help your little one rest better, and therefore help you get a few more Zzz, is Lively Living’s Aroma-Snooze Sleep-Aid

Why do babies love white noise?

Babies love white noise because it reminds them of the sounds they experienced in the womb. You can read more about white noise and the Best White Noise Machines on the market, as ranked by the thousands of Australian families we surveyed here.

I was keen to road test a few white noise machines as soon as Mimi was born and see if they actually could help soothe your little one to sleep. The Aroma-Snooze was ranked highly in our survey and I wanted to see if it was worth the hype. Mimi wasn’t a particularly bad sleep and didn’t suffer from colic but I sometimes found it difficult to settle her to sleep.

What is the Aroma-Snooze?

I started testing the Aroma-Snooze Sleep Aid when Mimi was a newborn and we still use it today (she’s now 18 months). I’ve reviewed other white noise machines but what I like about the Aroma-Snooze is its versatility.

This all-in-one product features sound therapy including lullabies, white noise, rain and heartbeat sounds. It’s also an air purifier and cool mist vaporiser (which can be used with or without essential oil). The Aroma-Snooze also functions as a lamp with Red LED light (as well as cooling blue and green lighting options) and has a record function, where you can record yourself saying comforting words for your baby.

The Aroma-Snooze requires a power outlet to operate and is not intended for on-to-go use. If you’re looking for a portable sound machine read our Baby Shusher review here. However, I found the Aroma-Snooze to be a great everyday sound machine. It lives in Mimi’s room on top of her chest of drawers and I find it really handy for our before-bed routine and continuous white noise throughout the night.

Easy to use

The Aroma-Snooze is seriously easy to use. You pour water into the machine and can add a few essential oils. (You can buy this product with or without essential oils.) I avoided using essential oils when Mimi was younger as I hadn’t done much research into use with babies. However, now that she’s a bit older I add a few drops of the essential oils but only turn on the product’s air purifier function when Mimi is not in the room. I use it after nappy changes and before her bedtime wind down so she associates the smell with sleep.

Once the product is plugged into a power outlet, you’re good to go. You get to determine how you use the Aroma-Snooze, as there are separate buttons to turn on each specific function. At our place, we mainly use the Aroma-Snooze for its white noise, lullabies and lamp functions.

Key takeaways after testing this product

I really liked that the Aroma-Snooze plays white noise all night long, which blocks out outside noise and helps Mimi sleep soundly. A lot of other white noise machines on the market only play white noise for short intervals and sometimes even only one sound. I’ve found the continuous hum of white noise drowns other household noise, such as the television or voices while she’s sleeping. I also like that there’s a variety of sounds to choose from, so you can have a play and see what works best for your baby.

We also really like the two lullabies this product comes pre-loaded with. One is called the Gentle lullaby, which we use for bedtime and the second is the Slow Rhythm Lullaby, which we use when Mimi wakes up to get our day started.

I love that the Aroma-Snooze is an all-in-one product, especially with the lamp and white noise settings. There are so many baby products out there, when I find a product that does a few things well in a single product it’s always a big plus. The lamp comes with Red LED light that is designed to support melatonin and sleep, however the lamp also has a few different colour settings including blue and green that add nice dim light to the room during naptime.

The only drawback of the Aroma-Snooze is that it’s not portable. We often visit my mum who lives regionally and while I would love to bring the Aroma-Snooze with us, I usually just plug her old transistor radio in and let it play static noise all night. On the plus side though, since it is power operated you never have to worry about the batteries running out.

I’d recommend the Aroma-Snooze to anyone looking for an all-rounder everyday white noise machine and lamp that you plan to leave in the same spot. It’s really versatile, easy to use and definitely in our experience helps with the bedtime wind down and drowning out household noise.
