Washing your little one for the first time can feel a little daunting but believe me, you will become a master at it in literally no time. You’ll also probably wish you invested in a plastic raincoat too as things can get very wet and slippery.

Washing your baby can be a bit of a juggling act and a good baby bath can offer support. If you’re considering a baby bath, you’ll generally come across two varieties: a baby bath or a baby bath support seat. The difference between the two is a baby bath is a self contained product that you can bathe your bub in, whereas as baby bath support seat needs to sit in another space (bath, shower, sink).

You can read about the difference between the two in our baby bath shopping guide here. Most baby baths are generally designed for newborns until your little one reaches 12 months, after this they can graduate to a toddler bath or maybe even your grown up bath as they will need more space.
To help you choose the right bath for your family, we surveyed Australian parents about the baths they used, loved and would recommend. We then analysed the data to bring you our 2022 Best Of Baby Baths in Australia list here.

One bath that ranked highly on this list is the Shnuggle Baby Bath. If you’re interested in this product, just be sure to note that this product is available in two sizes: baby baths (for newborn to 12 months) and the equivalent toddler bath when you’re baby is over one year of age.

Key takeaways after testing this product

One of the first things I noticed about the Shnuggle is its design, it really does look unique and not quite like any other baby bath out there. You can really see the attention to detail in the shape of it too and the material use, the bath is kind of moulded in one piece and really does look sleek (when you consider it’s a baby bath!).

I only started using the Shnuggle when Mimi was around 8 months and found the upright shape of the bath handy, as by this stage she could support her neck. However, friends who used this product from birth felt it was a little tricky washing their tiny wriggly baby in this bath. They felt as their baby was tiny and as the size of the Shnuggle is deep, it was tricky for them to position their hand as they held their baby and that the ‘bum bump’ was too big for their baby. As I didn’t test this product with a newborn, I can’t talk from my own personal experience.

I’d call this bath a medium size and you will need to have somewhere to store it. You can move it around with ease as you’re not filling it up with much water and because of it’s deeper shape not as much water splashes out. The Shnuggle also has a handy drain, so you can just open that it if you need to readjust the temperate of the water or when emptying the bath.

When it comes to cleaning, I found the Shnuggle was relatively easy to maintain and clean. It’s also quick drying. But you will need to find a designated spot to store this bath as it does take up a little bit of room and is quite tall.

For me, this product leans itself more for 4+ months when bub has a little more neck strength and stability. Of course it can be used with newborns, it’s just not as convenient as some other options on the market.
