Before you become a parent there are definitely products in the baby universe you will already know including: prams, cots, bassinet, car seats, nappies. Then there are lesser known products that are just as useful but may slip through the cracks, one of which is a pram caddy or handlebar bag.

A pram caddy is definitely a nice to have baby product and not essential to your parenting journey but in our experience is super convenient when you’re strolling with your little one. They are designed to attach to the handlebar of your pram and keep your essentials at your fingertips. To me, that you can reach for what you need in seconds instead of having to stop the pram and rummage through your nappy pram is one of the greatest perks of a pram caddy.

They are usually quite petite in size and designed to really only carry your essentials. Think wallet, keys, phone, a drink bottle or two, and maybe some precious baby wipes. We rounded up the Best Pram Caddies in Australia with our TBE parent survey, where we asked Australian parents to vote for the pram caddy they used, loved and would recommend. You can read our hit list of the best here.

The Liana Double Pouch Pram Caddy by Colette was ranked highly on this list, so I was very curious to use this product and take it for a spin.

Safety first!

Before using any pram caddy, always check with your pram manufacturer what the maximum weight limit that can be hung from the handlebar is. When critical tipping tests are performed on the pram under the Australian Pram and Stroller Safety Standards, they do not test with any weight hanging from the handlebar unless the brand has specified to do so (which is uncommon). This means that if you add even one kilo of weight to the handlebar, this could be just enough weight to tip the balance and pose a tipping hazard.

Key takeaways after testing this product

I always have good intentions to try and be organised when leaving the house with Mimi but the reality is often a different story. However, with a good pram caddy I can at least feel somewhat organised knowing I haven’t forgotten my essentials and have them close by when I’m out strolling with bub. I would say the The Lianna Double Pouch Pram Caddy by Colette is definitely for the parent who values organisation but it may need to be stored in the pram basket rather than from the handle.

I found the size of this pram caddy a little bigger than what I expecting after looking at photos of the product online. For some parents this will be a big plus, while others may prefer a slight more compact size, so always be sure to measure the dimensions before you add to cart. My main concern with this product is that even if it’s not overloaded, strollers which have been tested to hold weight on the handlebar are typically only to hold a kilo or so, so I do worry about this product having the potential to cause a tipping hazard.

The Liana Double Pouch Pram caddy definitely has a lot of storage options compared to other pram caddies on the market. On its exterior you’ll find two front pockets, a zip-up side pocket, an elasticated bottle pocket and a back pocket that has a change mat inside. I thought the change mat was pretty convenient especially when you’re on the go with bub and that I never needed to remember to pack one.

Internally there are two mesh pockets, a zip pocket and a larger compartment. You can definitely fit a lot more than just your wallet, keys and phone using this pram caddy and could extend the space to even fit some nappies, nappy cream, snacks and change of clothes. I wouldn’t say the size of this bag would replace a nappy bag but if you are a super minimalist, it might come close! (Again, if you do so please store it in your pram basket and not from the handlebar).

The internal lining is okay to wipe down if things get messy. If it does pass the maximum weight test for your pram then it does come with hooks that will hang around your handlebar. Another feature of this design is that it also comes with an extendable shoulder strap, so you can choose to wear it as a handbag if you wish.

Overall, I found this pram caddy to be reasonably practical but my personal preference would have been that it was a bit more compact. However, if you like space and a lot of it this might be the pram caddy for you. I hate to harp on about it but once again, please check with your pram manufacturer before using this product.
